About PEI

PEI’s Job Analysis Studies meet professional standards and provide the framework for an agency to defend its employee selection and other related employment practices should legal challenges arise.

AGENCY-SPECIFIC JOB ANALYSIS STUDIES

Job Analysis is the legally recognized method by which employers can ensure a valid/defensible definition and description of a job. Job Analysis is the process of identifying essential job tasks and the essential knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics and physical abilities that are essential for performing these tasks successfully.

A thorough, well-documented Job Analysis enables an organization to defend its employee selection and other related employment practices should legal challenges arise. In addition, a Job Analysis provides the basis for development of performance appraisal systems and standards, as well as other objectives such as the development of valid and defensible new hire training programs.

Conducting a thorough, well-documented, defensible Job Analysis Study has typically been a very time-consuming and expensive undertaking. PEI, through its extensive knowledge and experience within public safety communications, has streamlined the process and developed materials and procedures which provide an agency with a state-of-the-art Job Analysis Study at a fraction of the traditional cost.

  • Ensures employment practices are based on a sound, well-documented and legally defensible foundation. Complies with ADA and other Civil Rights legislation.
  • Provides documented results which may be used for selection planning and validation, performance appraisal system development, and training program development and validation.
  • Readily adaptable to any size organization. PEI has conducted Job Analysis Studies for communications centers of all types, ranging in size from 6 full-time employees to 130 full-time employees.
  • Fast turnaround on implementation, analysis & results (typically 4-6 weeks)

WHAT YOU RECEIVE:

  • A fully detailed Job Analysis Study Report containing full documentation of the procedures, participants and results of the Job Analysis process. The Study Report clearly states the knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics and physical abilities (KSAOs) required for the analyzed position(s). The Job Analysis Study Report includes:
    • A Linkage Study of essential job tasks to essential KSAOs. This serves as the content domain for validating entry-level selection and/or promotional procedures taken or to be taken by the agency for the analyzed position(s).
    • A Linkage Report of identified essential and prerequisite KSAOs to various selection procedures. This serves to assist the agency in selection planning. Each KSAO is linked to various selection procedures which may be used in the selection process.
    • A Training Report listing those knowledge, skills and abilities comprising the content domain for training criteria. The Training Report assists the agency in ensuring their training programs are based on a solid, defensible foundation.
    • PEI’s certification of the defensibility of the Job Analysis Study.
  • A formal Job Description for each position analyzed. The Job Description clearly states the essential job tasks and the essential knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics & physical abilities required to perform the job tasks.
  • A Job Facts Sheet designed to be given to all candidates for an entry-level telecommunicator position. The Job Facts Sheet assists in the selection process by providing candidates with a realistic description of the job.
  • A thorough, well-documented, defensible Job Analysis Study at a fraction of the traditional cost.
